Earlier this year, I started hearing about a new donut vendor hitting the local craft/farmers market scene here in the suburbs. My spouse also is a vendor (woodworking) and said she was running into what seemed to be a one-man show called Old Boy.
I was able to find Old Boy online and he looked legit – local, handmade, small-batch donuts, and, like basically every donut purveyor here in the suburbs, no storefront. I got really excited and determined to check out Old Boy the next time he was selling.
I visited the Farmers Market at Muscoot Farm and saw Old Boy’s table, but it was like 100 degrees that day so we decided to get a tasty beverage from Bear Mountain Coffee Roasters before heading over. When we got to the Old Boy table, there were no handmade donuts, but instead a handmade sign that said “Sold Out.”

Better luck next time, I thought.
Today was next time, so we rolled up to the Farmers Market at Honeybee Grove, which is a flower farm in nearby Somers, NY. This time, we decided to visit Old Boy quickly in fear that he would sell out again. When we arrived, the donuts were again sold out. However, we were able to score his last two banana-blueberry muffins, which were awesome – tons of blueberries, light and fluffy, with a crusty muffin lid and coffee-cake-style crunch on top.
So, we wait patiently for Old Boy donuts here in the suburbs. But what we’ve seen and tasted so far is encouraging and we look forward to scoring some actual donuts soon!

Jason is obsessed with customer service, both at donut shops and beyond. His current favorite donut is Wild Blueberry from Doughnut Plant.
